Hi-G-Tek’s Erik Wood to Moderate a Panel Session at the Upcoming IDGA Military Logistics Summit

The September 24th round table will present an opportunity to discuss Active RFID.

Rockville, Md. -- September 2, 2008 -- Hi-G-Tek (www.higtek.com), a developer of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) sensing and control solutions for tracking high-value cargo and sensitive materials, today announced that Erik Wood, Vice President of Business Development, will speak at the upcoming IDGA Military Logistics Summit. He will be presenting to, and moderating, a round table group composed of Department of Defense (DoD) logistics professionals and industry experts on the topic of ISO 18000-7 Active RFID for in-transit visibility. The panel session will be held on September 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. (EDT).

The IDGA Military Logistics Summit brings together industry leaders in logistics operations to discuss strategies, initiatives and policy requirements to ensure the readiness of the military forces - today and in the future.  It will focus on the three critical areas of performance-based logistics, business process modernization, and asset visibility and supply-chain management. The summit will be held September 22-25, 2008, at the Sheraton Premier Tyson’s Corner hotel in Vienna, Virginia.

Wood’s panel will focus on the ISO 18000-7 Active RFID standard and how it relates to in-transit visibility. The protocol is an international standard that operates at 433 megahertz and is used around the world by the DoD, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and various military defense systems. This frequency features a low-power consumption that allows the incorporation of various sensor attributes including temperature, location and humidity. In addition, the 18000-7 standard established an automatic identification of assets at distances exceeding 100 meters.

“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to participate in a panel of such highly-regarded logistics professionals,” said Wood. “Active RFID technology is imperative to the ability to track and maintain the visibility of sensitive cargo – military or otherwise. Focusing on the current and future state of the military’s ability to securely transfer vital assets from one place to another is extremely important, as attacks on such cargo are rising around the globe.”
